Wills and Trusts

By including the KCLS Foundation in your will or trust, you are leaving a legacy that will ensure that the library has funding to provide our community with access to critical resources and programs to improve their lives for themselves and their families.

If you have already included the KCLS Foundation in your estate plan, THANK YOU!. We hope you will let us know by completing this form. We want to thank you and learn how you would like to be recognized for this gift.

Below is sample bequest language that might be used to designate a fixed sum or percentage of your assets to the KCLS Foundation.

"I give to The King County Library System Foundation, a nonprofit corporation, 960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah, WA 98027 (Federal Tax Identification Number (TIN) #91-1505230) the amount of $_______ or ______% of the residue of my estate."

Gifts that Guarantee Lifetime Payments

  • Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT):  You transfer assets (usually cash, securities, or real estate) to a trustee of your choice through a formal trust agreement. Your trustee invests the trust assets and makes annual payments to you and/or a loved one, based on the payout rate chosen by you. At your death or at the termination of the trust, the principal is distributed to the Library.

  • Charitable Lead Trust (CLT): You transfer assets (usually cash or securities) to a trustee of your choice through a formal trust agreement. Your trustee invests the trust assets and makes annual income payments to the Library. At termination, the trust distributes all assets, including any appreciation, to your heirs.

Giving by Beneficiary Designation

Did you know that there are additional assets not covered in a standard will or trust?

If you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any additional accounts, these are called “non-probate assets” and they need to be planned for separately. Using this online tool, you can log all of your assets, decide who will be the beneficiary, and receive printable instructions on how to set each one up with your broker. While making your plans, you will have the option to name the KCLS Foundation as one of your beneficiaries as a way to ensure that our libraries are around for generations to come.

Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian payable to a qualified charity, is a great way to support the KCLS Foundation. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year.
